Currency

The currency used mainly in Vietnam is Vietnamese dong (The đồng /dɒŋ/; symbol "đ", code: VND).  You can exchange the Vietnamese dong at banks or airports. Vietnamese dong has many different denominations, popular from 500 dong to 500,000 dong. Current exchange rate: 1 US dollar (USD) ≈ 22,650 dong (VND) (2017).

Five hundred thousand dong is the largest denomination now, it's worth approximately US $ 22 (based on the exchange rate in 2017).

There are many different recorder ways. For example, five hundred thousand is recorded: 500 000đ; 500,000đ; 500.000đ or 500,000.00đ.

The payment is based on the addition and subtraction calculations

For example:  You take the bus fare is 6,000 dong (six thousand dong), you can pay with three sheets of two thousand dong (2000 dong x3) or one sheet of five thousand dong  and one sheet of one thousand dong (5000 dong + 1000 dong). There are many different ways of payment, based on the principles of arithmetic.

You need to carefully check the change and limited carrying large cash.
